Spring 2016 Haute Couture: Zuhair Murad’s Enchanted Cages

After taking his clients through the stars and beyond with his last couture collection, which was almost entirely midnight blues and had starry galaxies embroidered everywhere, Zuhair Murad landed back into a beautiful enchanted garden full of exotic caged birds.

Titled Amour-en-cage (love in cage), his collection was all about transparencies with delicate silk tulles gently shaped by whalebones that created crinolines skirts and basques. These panniers with their geometric grids were generously embroidered with 3D guipure motifs or floral appliques, as if climbing over a trellis.

The powdery shades of rosewood, celadon, lavender and crystal white reinforced the romantic feel of this Spring/Summer 2016 haute couture collection which offered a wide variety of lengths, from short tulip shape skirts to long sweeping evening gowns, and also included assymetrical skirts for those who can’t decide. Silhouettes were embraced with a decorative metal belt that reinforced the cage aspect, while bustier were strapless and hips were exaggerated with the structural boning.

Overall, the collection seemed to be targeting at a younger clientele with its sweet sensuality.
