Spring 2020 Haute Couture: Zuhair Murad's Egyptian Collection
Written By Sonia Kolesnikov-Jessop
For his Couture Spring-Summer 2020 collection, Lebanese designer Zuhair Murad paid homage to Egyptian queens.
Collars were bedecked with scintillating breastplates, each delicately bejeweled. The sheath dresses, which ran through the collection like a golden thread, were suspended by straps, delicately knotted at the shoulders and structured by a marked waist.
As a reverence to the Sun God, evenings gowns were adorned with capes, with incandescent gilding and crystals, for a sensuous yet architectural effect. The sun pleats came in vermilion or pitch black, bedecked by a majestic trail and cutouts at the chest and the back. Embroideries recalled Egyptian hieroglyphs and imageries of Egyptian Gods, like Ibis and Horus.
