Spring 2019 Haute Couture: Zuhair Murad’s Deep Dive
Written By Sonia Kolesnikov-Jessop
For Spring/Summer 2019, Zuhair Murad's creative spirit took a deep dive to the ocean floor with his couture collection exploring its fauna and fiona through texture and movement.
The designer relied on a rich palette of blues using a variety of materials: silk chiffon moved like wave around the body, an openwork design with cape sleeves and flowing draperies evolved in shades of deep blue. Beaded armholes close to the body appear to retrace the natural grooves of sea-shells – all reworked in silk tulle or gauze, while coral embroideries and print peppered dresses and mother-of-pearl luminescence was evoked in beadwork, pleats, embroidery and radiant stitching.
