Fall 2018 Haute Couture: Georges Chakra Plays on Transparency

Lebanese designer Georges Chakra explored fabric layering, using light transparent fabrics such as pleated tulles and chiffon to show glimmers of shine.

Volumes were structured with torsos corseted and waists clearly defined, while skirts were generally more free flowing and sweeping the ground.

Mini dresses covered in shimmering sequins were covered by longer tulle coats, and slightly concealing the dresses actually added to their sexiness, while velvet bands crossed over the body creating graphic effects.

Though black dominated the collection there were flashes of silver, scarlet, shocking pink and flamboyant orange, sometimes mixed together. Plus glimmers of shine with lamé lace, shimmery velvet, hand-painted gazar, jet beading, crystals and sequins; the overall feeling of the collection was airy and sexy, with mousseline cascading down one back and flowing tulle embroidered with feathers on another.
