Spring 2024 Haute Couture: Robert Wun's Surreal World

London-based designer Robert Wun’s sophomore couture presentation in Paris offered surrealist creations (with a wink to Magritte) that beautifully blended the poetic with the disturbing.

The designer reprised his signature glass raindrops, subtly peppering many of his creations with them (along with pearls), while generous pleating offered cascading details on sleeves, shoulders and skirts. Of note, a long coat with glass shards, a figure-hugging blue gown splashed with paint and paired with a matching bowler hat, and an opening sheath dress covered with crystal drops. Paint splashing could also be found on a few creations, including a gory blood-stained bridal gown, though the dress and veil were intricately decorated with red crystals. The collection featured a beautiful gown in ash-colored tulle with printed flames on he skirt and bodice, paired with a wide-brimmed felt hat complete with burn holes, as if the dress had engulfed its wearer in flames.

As models sashayed slowly down the long runaway the designer brought in plenty of drama thought fabulously surreal accessories, such as hats shaped like umbrellas, face masks and other headpieces, even a mannequin attachment emerging from the waist at the rear
