Spring 2024 Haute Couture: Miss Sohee's Korean antique inspirations

“I’ve always found beauty in old, neglected objects. They speak to me on a deeply personal level. The idea of collecting beautiful antiques, with rich and meaningful stories woven into their very essence, allows me to breathe new life into them,” said Sohee Park, the young designer behind the rising star of the couture world, Miss Sohee.

The London -based designer was inspired by recent travels to her native Korea as well as her besotted love for giving fresh meaning to things long forgotten, reinterpreting them through her lens.

Old white porcelain vases, mother-of-pearl jewellery boxes and wooden fans were translated directly into the shapes of the collection. The colour palette consisted of soft jewel tones, reminiscent of cherry blossoms and magnolias as they are the first flowers to bloom in the Spring in Korea.

Many of her designs were rooted in corsetry, with figure hugging dresses that highlight the female forms, while open-back dresses sporting dramatic cuts.

Handbags and fans were created in collaboration with South Korean artisans, using Hansan Mosi, a unique slow-weaving technique made from locally sourced hemp. The designer also used fabrics from oil costumers giving them a second life with novel takes.
