Artketing: Jeff Koons’s Yellow Balloon Dog for Bernardaud

French porcelain maker Bernardaud has reached out once again to Jeff Koons to launch a limited edition porcelain version of his iconic Balloon Dog sculpture. The original twisted balloon-shaped sculpture is part of the artist’s series, The Celebration, created in the mid-1990s and is a celebration and childhood, color, and simplicity. The mirror-polished stainless steel of the original artwork has been replicated here in a metallic yellow finish, and the dog then attached to a reflective plate. While a spokesperson for Bernardaud wouldn’t elaborate on how the new metallic-looking porcelain is created, she acknowledged it had been a technical feat that had taken several months to master.
In total, 2,300 porcelain Balloon Dog (Yellow) pieces will be created.
