Artketing: Damien Hirst Expands Lalique Collaboration with Glass Sculptures

Celebrated British artist Damien Hirst first collaborated with Lalique in 2015 creating a series of crystal panels embracing the butterfly motif he often uses in his artwork.

At Maison et Objet in Paris earlier this month, Lalique unveiled a series of new creations with the artist that included several sculptures exploring themes Hirst has regularly revisited in his practice since the late 1980s. 

The sculptures each act as statements of intent: A human skull (“Sleep”) acts as a reminder of the unavoidable passage of time, “Truth” is represented by a splendid dove in full flight carrying a golden olive branch, while “Belief” features a constellation of colored capsules insert into a cross.

Two new motifs have been added to the 2015 Eternal panel collection: “Memento,” a smaller-shaped skull and “Prayer,” a heart pierced by a dagger have been hot-pressed into the mold of the crystal panels.
