Fall 2015 Haute Couture: Georges Hobeika’s Floral Love Affair Continues

Georges Hobeika delivered a Fall 2015 Haute Couture Collection complete with short skirts and embroideries of blue and white flowers in a scallop pattern. The Lebanese designer said he had been inspired by an an elegant "five o'clock tea."

Hobeika relied heavily on beadings, sequins, and crystals for his creations that made a pleasant and distinct swishing sound as the models walked down the pristine white catwalk. And after a few seasons of restraint, the designer gave full rein to his atelier’s petite mains to create detailed embellishments. For example, a long train was seen dripping with applique butterflies that seemed ready to fly away, while thousands of blue petal appliques decorated the bottom of a full-length skirt.

There was no sense of an upcoming cold winter in the collection, but more of a gentle autumn with a few red berries sewn onto sleeves. Pretty, blooming florals were instead a leitmotiv, with a myriad of red pansies, blue jasmines, and white lilies of the valleys.

Cocktail dresses were short and skirts looking like a reversed teacups (of the elegant five o'clock tea that had been the general inspiration of the collection). Blue and white motifs associated with Chinese porcelain could also be found on several gowns.

Particularly successful was the use of dégradés of color and beading, such as different shades of blue that seemingly moved from dark to light, as well as the use of long white sleeves trailing the floor on a dress to create a train effect.
