Artketing: Vik Muniz Collaborates with Perrier-Jouët

Champagne house Perrier-Jouët reached out to Brazilian artist and photographer Vik Muniz for the launch of a limited edition bottle for its Cuvée Belle Epoque Rosé 2005 vintage.

Muniz is known for his photographs of unconventional materials that have been styled to recreate well-known works of art or popular icons, and for this project he has built on the brand’s anemone imagery first designed by Emile Gallé in 1902. On the clear glass bottle, Muniz has designed a hummingbird interacting with the flower, turning their usually white petals into a gentle pink that offsets the Champagne’s salmon shade.

Originally created from shavings of gold, the bird was photographed and then applied via gold plating inside the bottle. Muniz says he wanted to “add” to the bottle without “taking away” anything, and got the idea of the hummingbird because his house and studio are full of the little birds which he describes as “little fairies.”

The limited edition of 5,000 bottles comes with a packaging also designed by Muniz.
