“In my head, I’m not really a fashion designer, I’m a designer and it really doesn’t suit my work to show it on a catwalk,” mused couturier and designer Maurizio Galante at the opening of his “Conversation” exhibition at Helene Bailly Gallery on Wednesday night.

Showing during haute couture week in Paris, the designer eschewed a traditional runway presentation instead presenting a few new pieces on wooden mannequins giving viewers the opportunity to see them up close. The works were installed in “conversation” with several other pieces he had created including a contemporary chandelier, two cabinets with metallic wave designs on their doors, and a new line of jewelry, Galanterie by Maurizio Galante, made up of mainly unique gold pieces along with a few necklaces using black or white swan and ostrich feathers in a limited edition.

“It’s the first time I’m doing jewelry. They’re based on the same ideas than my clothes they must move,” he explained.

Some of the jacket-cum-boleros on view were a continuation of his previous works, as he loves to explore the notion of moving sculptures, but there were also a new line of redingotes with interesting detailing on a back or on sleeves.
