After its debut in London's Saatchi Gallery in 2015, a new chapter of "Mademoiselle Privé" Exhibition will soon open at D MUSEUM in Seoul.

Aiming to highlight Chanel’s creativity though the ages, the exhibition is as much about Gabrielle Chanel’s emblematic creations, such as Chanel N°5 fragrance, as it is about Karl Lagerfeld’s vision to keep the house firmly rooted into its heritage, finding inspiration into Mademoiselle Chanel’s original codes and symbols (the camellia, the lion, the little black dress) while constantly reinventing them to project the brand into the future. Lagerfeld has helmed the house since 1983.

The Seoul exhibition, due to open on June 23, will offer a fresh take on the London show with a few Korean touches..

The first room with graphic on the walls and hat boxes is inspired by the maison’s original boutique, which opened in the resort town of Deauville in 1913, and will give visitors the opportunity to watch a series of short films highlighting the alluring modernity the French couturier established, by using, for example, jersey, a material at the time associated with men’s underwear.

Visitors will then move on to discover Chanel’s codes and symbols, including the camellia which will be revisited by Korean artist Jiyong Lee in a piece especially created for this exhibition.

Visitors will also learn about the raw ingredients essential to the creation of the iconic Chanel N°5 perfume — aldehydes, ylang ylang, May rose, jasmine and sandalwood — and marvel at the craftsmanship of Chanel’s Haute Couture workshops as well as get an insight into the talented mind of Karl Lagerfeld.

Twelve haute couture dresses illuminated from the inside will reveal the layers of technique involved in their creation, including the embroidery from the House of Lesage or feather work from the House of Lemarié.

In 2012, Chanel re-edited the 1932 ‘Bijoux de Diamants’ collection, the only jewelry collection ever designed by Gabrielle Chanel. Part of the 2012 collection will be presented along with Karl Lagerfeld’s portraits of seventeen actresses, models and friends wearing the pieces, as well as a new series of polaroid portraits of Korean personalities wearing them (G-Dragon, Irene Kim and Soo Joo Park).
