A $6.5-9 million Jade Bangle could steal the show at Sotheby’s Hong Kong

High quality jade bangles are extremely rare at auction and will often command high prices because of the high wastage required during the cutting process as they are carved from one jadeite boulder. In April 2014, an oval one set a record price at Sotheby’s Hong Kong, selling for $5.65 million.

On October 4, the auction house will offer a rare vivid emerald green jadeite bangle with high translucency, valued at $6.5 – 9 million.

This could prove the top lot of Sotheby’s Hong Kong’s Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite Autumn Sale, though it will have some competition from a diamond necklace by Harry Winston with a cascade of pear-shaped diamonds (est. $5.4 – 6.2 million), as well as a 6.59-carat fancy intense purple-pink pear-shaped diamond and diamond ring (est. $5.3 – 6.5 million).

Offering about 185 lots, the auction house is hoping to raise $65 million.

Expect the usual kaleidoscopic range of coloured diamonds along with a selection of colourless ones, including a 28.88-carat unmounted diamond (Est. $4.5 – 5.4 million,) and a step-cut 13.60-carat diamond ring by Cartier (Est. $1.4 – 1.8 million).

Amongst some of the other top lots, the auction house is offering “The Pride of  Kashmir,” a 20.22-carat sapphire and diamond ring (Est. $ 3.8 – 5.8 million), a 21.72-carat sapphire and diamond Ring by Van Cleef & Arpels (Est. $ 2.3 – 3.2 million), a 5.07-carat ruby and diamond ring (Est. $1.9 – 2.3 million) and “The Black Beauty” necklace (Est. $ 2.1 – 2.5 million), composed of 42 graduated natural grey pearls, alternating with black onyx rondelles and faceted diamond beads.

Sotheby’s choose a beautiful Bulgari demi-parure as its cover lot (est: $595,000 – 1.04 million). The necklace comprises of three graduated step-cut emeralds weighing 12.00, 10.14 and 6.91-carats, and the earrings are each set with a step-cut emerald weighing 6.01 and 5.92-carats respectively.
