Givenchy for Rihanna

The collaboration between couture houses and pop stars continue. After Jean Paul Gaultier and Madonna, Armani and Lady Gaga, it’s the turn of the House of Givenchy and Rihanna to unite on stage. Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy designed the pop star’s first act costumes for her Diamonds world tour that started earlier this month in Buffalo, USA.

The singer opens her act wearing a black, floor-length, ruffled silk crepe cape with 3D collar embroideries and black, nappa leather, thigh-high boots with lacing details. After removing the cape, Rihanna reveals a three-piece, printed and embroidered costume.

Tisci has also designed a masculine, over-sized black printed and hand embroidered parka, channeling his signature mix of street wear and haute couture. Under the parka, Rihanna wears a black and white nappa leather bra with gold star embroideries and gold buckles, once again mixing haute couture techniques and sportswear elements. The look is completed by a shark tooth gold metal necklace with an engraved military plaque in the back, sunglasses with gold metal hardware elements from his haute couture line, and white crystal stud earrings.

“I enjoyed making these looks: Rihanna represents what young and amazing means today. She is punk and talented. She offers intelligence, energy, and pure beauty. Rihanna has what every girl aspires to have. She is the face of her generation,” the designer said in a press statement.

Rihanna also reached out to other designers. She wears on stage a color-blocked leather bra and pants designed by Adam Selman matched with Manolo Blahnik boots, as well as a Selman's red jersey top and skirt and a dollar-bill-print holographic mini dress . At one stage, she slips into a Raf Simons’ sheer T-shirt dress  paired with Christian Louboutin white boots, and she finishes her show in a custom beaded jumpsuit by Lanvin!
