7 Luxury Timepieces for a Good Cause
Every two years some of the most renowned luxury watchmaking brands come together for a charity auction of unique timepieces to benefit medical research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
Known as Only Watch, the next charity auction is to be staged by Christie’s in Geneva on November 11 and offers 49 one-off timepieces specially created for the event.
The collection will first tour the globe, starting at the Monaco Yacht Show (27‑30 September), then moves on to Bangkok (02‑03 October, hosted by Christie’s, Singapore (05‑06 October — The Hour Glass), Dubai (09‑11 October — Christie’s & Seddiqi), Hong Kong (23‑24 October — Christie’s), Taipei (26‑27 October — Christie’s), New York (29‑30 October — Christie’s), Los Angeles (1‑2 November — Westime), before being presented in Geneva from 9 November at Christie’s auction rooms ahead of the sale on the 11th.
CoutureNotebook selected seven lust-worthy pieces which will be on offer for a good cause:
Boucheron's bejewelled timepiece presents two wheat ears in white gold sculpted and engraved in volume over a mother-of-pearl dial. The grains, paved with snow-setting diamonds, are at different levels of height and recover themselves in a clockwise direction. .
The Geisha of this Bovet's Secret Beauty will bare all in the dak, thanks to the use of luminescent pain on this miniature creation on a mother-of-pearl dial. The artist combined different layers of traditional painting and Super-LumiNova®, to rendering this work of art, both by day and by night.
For Only Watch 2017, Christophe Claret is creating a 3D depiction of the cherry blossom. The blue enameled center of the flower will feature a pistil topped with a blue sapphire and stamens represented by 28 emeralds.
In cooperation with the American artist Hunt Slonem, Armin Storm is offering a unique timepiece which represents a fusion of creative art and mechanical craftsmanship.
This reinterpretation of Jaquet Droz's iconic Grande Seconde watch and its playful figure 8 features a striking red cuprite dial.
Piaget is offering a beautiful 1950s inspired cushion-shape timepiece with a hard stone dial in brown pietersite, a powerful 'protection 'stone, especially against the elements.
Indulging in luxury, without feeling guilty? A great idea.
