Valentino - Master of Couture
From Julia Robert’s 2001 elegant black and white Oscar gown to Jackie Onassis’ 1968 wedding dress and Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece’s 1995 pearl-encrusted ivory silk wedding gown, more than 130 creations from Valentino Garavani will be on display in this exhibition opening at Sommerset House in London on Nov 29 and paying tribute to the haute couture creations of Valentino.
Featuring dresses from the catwalk and red carpet, as well as designs commissioned by private clients, the exhibition will give visitors a rare glimpse behind the closed doors of Valentino’s world.
“Each of these designs has a beautiful story,” Garavani said in a statement. “The atelier crafted each so diligently by hand, taking hours, sometimes days to complete. The details are incredibly intricate. Though outside the runway shows and events, the dresses have rarely been seen. To be able to showcase these designs at Somerset House, where they can be seen in great detail by the public, is very unique.”
Curators will transform Somerset House’s Embankment Galleries into a glamorous couture catwalk. In a clever reversal of roles each visitor will take the place of the model walking along a sixty-metre runway to view the ‘audience’, all of whom will be dressed in Valentino Couture.
The garments will be grouped by themes rather than chronologically, for example tones of black and white, volume and Valentino red, and the open display will make the craftsmanship of those beautiful dresses clearly visible.
If you are in London this Winter a definite MUST SEE up close..
VALENTINO: MASTER OF COUTURE will run until Mar 3, 2013
