Paolo Sebastien’s SS24 Collection’s Allora Domenica

Paolo Sebastian’s Spring/Summer Collection, titled Allora Domenicam celebrates his nonna, who turns 95 years old this year.

“My nonna taught me to sew when I was just three years old,” continues Paul. “Not only did she encourage me to create, play, and learn, but there was an unspoken language in our family to always pursue our dreams….This marks one of my most personal endeavours yet,” says Paul Vasileff, Creative Director and Designer.

Allora Domenica captures the undone romance of old-world Italy, where Vasileff’s nonna grew up, and the heart of the woman it forged in the process. The classic collection is playful with a gelato-themed colour palette of mandorla, pistacchio, azzurro, and fichi d’india . Iconic 50s silhouettes of structured waists, headscarves, and off-shoulder straps are modernised with fresh floral work and effortless drop waists.

Silk mercado, duchess satin, and corded lace set the scene for striking cut-out work and intricate embellishment, resulting in a carefree yet charming ensemble.

“I have this vivid memory as a child of a ceramic flower vase in my nonna’s house, and being deeply fascinated by all of its wonderful, vibrant colours. It was a full-circle moment to be able to bring that memory to life in this collection,” the designer explains.

This off-shoulder drop waist gown with floral embroidery (right) and embellished crystal work is one of the standout pieces from Allora Domenica… As is the strapless pleated circle skirt gown, and the silk mercado bell￾shaped ballgown with three-dimensional floral veil.

The veil also features a hand-stitched quote from one of Domenica’s favourite poems, Rosabella del Molise.

The sixteen-piece collection is complete with two scarves inspired by Domenica’s Calabrian roots, and her subsequent journey in making Australia her new home.
