Spring 2018 Haute Couture: Georges Chakra Loves Ruffles
“Love and be loved” was the theme of Georges Chakra’s Spring 2018 Couture collection which translated on the catwalk into romantic ruffles and the use of pastel colors
The Lebanese designer opened his presentation with a series of highly wearable strong black and white structured looks that introduce large ruffles as basques or sleeves. Then ruffles were included placed around the helm of a skirt, or embracing the whole silhouette as if coiling like a serpent.
As the collection moved from black and white into pastel colors (lilac, light blue, grey, green, pink, champagne, iridescence), the designer created a series of less structured outfits with long fluid gowns embellished with tiny flower appliques or feathers.
Carried on wings of love, the playfulness and the lightness of the draped fabrics carefully exposed skin. Tulle, muslin, organza were geometrically folded or draped in many layers, combined with feathers, rose petals, and sometimes highlighted with Swarovski crystals Some fabrics had been hand-painted like a watercolor painting and signed by Chakra in Swarovski crystal letters:
His daring bride stepped out, at the end of the show, in an asymmetrical multi-layered skirt full of flowers and ruffles, revealing a pretty frivolity.
