Spring 2019 Haute Couture: Antonio Grimaldi’s Labyrinths

Italian couturier Antonio Grimaldi found inspiration for his Haute Couture S/S 2019 collection in Richard Stauss’s Ariadne on Naxos (based on the story of Ariadn

e abandoned by Theseus, whose life she once saved from the Minotaur).

The collection offered geometric asymmetries, three-dimensional sculptural shape thanks to double crepe gazar and a thin metal wire inserted into the profiles, and some fluid chiffon.

The graphics of the Minotaur maze materializes in embroidery: silver and metal threads, three dimensional, geometric and luminous, with glass boules and laser-cut sequins. Small capes, blouse dresses, thin trousers, references to the classical peplos with a contemporary feel.

The color palette articulated neutral nuances of cream, gray, powder pink, and bright beige.

Looks were completed with lasered feathers and jeweled ribbons, made by the French jeweler Bernard Delettrez, which veil the gaze of the modern Ariadne.
