Fall/Winter 2014 Haute Couture: On Aura Tout Vu Explores Water and Ice

Elsa, the ice princess of Frozen, the Walt Disney blockbuster, would surely have approved. On Aura Tout Vu’s Fall/Winter 2014 Haute Couture Collection was full of sharp crystal on shoulders, water splashes on print, long flowing sleeves and stunning powder blue fur that conjured images of a spectacular ice palace set in a wonderful winter land. The designer duo behind the brand, Livia Stoianova and Yassen Samouilov, had titled their collection H2O (after the chemical symbol for water) which they explored in its various states, gas, liquid and solid. While the first few looks evoked moving water, with a splash of white foam rising up the seam of a long belted coat and embroidered sequins, the collection quickly moved toward a more icy theme (after a couple of out of turn flaming red designs) and the designers let their imaginations run wild. On Aura Tout Vu has never been shy of using crystal and here they were dripping at shoulders, decorating a neckline or a waist. Some on a cocktail-like dress with flowing chiffon skirt, and on one with long flowing, regal-like sleeves, were particularly successful (and highly wearable).

But the collection was far from being just princess-like. There was a “hard” rock and roll edge, with long pointed crystals finishing a sexy corset worn over skinny shorts and a ball gown split to reveal a bodysuit.

The designers showcased the craftsmanship of their atelier with a pleated chiffon dress, endless beading, and coral-like detailing on fur.

The final bridal look was a pure white, perfect for a snow queen.
