Fall 2013 Haute Couture: Atelier Versace's Sexy Elegance
Naomi Campbell opened Paris Haute Couture Week on Sunday night, rocking the runway for Atelier Versace with her sultry confidence. She wore a sexy micro sequin jacket held together by rows of hook-and-eye fastenings that showed plenty of flesh without revealing too much.
The gun metal fastening, that echoes in a much more subtle way the safety pin dress worn by Elizabeth Hurley back in the 1990s, was used throughout the collection to great effect creating high slits, unveiling shoulders and generally creating lines that defined and enhanced the body. "I wanted a sexy and sophisticated woman with a strong attitude. Only a true icon like Naomi Campbell could open this show,” Donatella Versace said after the show.
In some cocktail dresses, the hook and eyes were left undone, revealing a delicately lace bra embroidered with crystal, while in others the designer used white crystals over the fastening system, creating curves that enhanced and elongated silhouettes. She kept to a palette of rich jewelled tone with ruby red, sapphire blue, deep emerald and black.
As in her previous couture collections, the Italian designer continued to mix and match fabrics – a deep purple crocodile trench coat lined with mink fur sports micro-sequin sleeves, strips of fur are interwoven with shredded tulles and sequins in another trench coat, while a long deep ruby evening dress sculpted the body with panels of tulles and net, each differently embroidered with beads.

With Uma Thurman, Emma Stone, and Mena Suvari gracing the front row, Campbell closed the show oozing confidence, wearing a body suit embroidered with black crystals and a mink fur cardigan, with chiffon and silk tulle threads woven in.
